Change history of the Braille module
The vocabulary of the Braille module is constantly being expanded. However,
these enhancements are not noted in detail for the individual versions.
The vocabulary is currently based on a word list with two million entries.

The back translation in German now distinguishes between "CK"
and uppercase characters (dots 4, 6) when a single vowel precedes
the uppercase character with or without lowercase 6. This means that
words such as "iPhone" or "eBraille" are also correctly
translated back.
Sequences of hyphens and equal signs from length 3 onwards are passed
through unchanged in both directions during conversion.
The paragraph sign does not end the "Everything in a big way"
presentation.
The announcement mark for mathematics font only works if it is not
immediately followed by a white space.

In German shorthand for the blind, single brackets, exclamation marks
and question marks before a control character are given the cancellation
point 6 in order to avoid confusion with monotonous abbreviations.
This can have an effect before line or page breaks and after headings
in the table of contents. The back translation in German now distinguishes
between "CK" and uppercase characters (dots 4, 6) when a
single vowel precedes the uppercase character with or
without lowercase 6. In German Braille, dot 6 to mark units of measurement
or lowercase is now also inserted in lowercase letters after a micron
μ in mathematics.

The text conversion and back-translation functions can now also process
Braille characters in UTF-8 from the Unicode range U+2800 to U+28FF.
During text conversion, they are passed through unchanged (transparency
mode). In the case of the back translation, they are taken over and
translated back without points 7 and 8.

For lowercase and uppercase characters, the context (math or text)
is now taken into account when translating back. A lowercase character
before a punctuation mark is converted as a lowercase character and
not as an angle bracket. A question mark within a consistently uppercase
word is also considered an uppercase letter (question marks can occur
as Unicode surrogates). In the case of the back translation into
basic and full print, the characters for "ö", "ü"
and "ß" were not converted if they appeared alone. Unused
characters such as "6", "7", "{", "%"
and "&" are passed through unchanged.

The performance of shorthand translation has been accelerated by
improved indexing ("best mismatch" algorithm).
For strings that can be confused with multiform abbreviations, a
"grade 1 sign" is only set in UEB if there is an exact match
without a plural S.
The back translation of integer fractions in UEB in numeric mode
did not work. The same applies to the back translation of the single
and capitalized word "Were".
The announcement sign '. for full script in UEB erroneously also
worked at the end of the word.
Spaces before or after a forward slash have been removed when only
one side is adjacent to a letter and not both sides.
The question mark at the end of the sentence was incorrectly interpreted
as quotation marks when it was followed by a parenthesis when translated
back into UEB.
Stand-alone angle brackets in UEB were not displayed correctly in
the vicinity of arithmetic symbols.
The translation of mathematical expressions in NEMETH code in UEB
has been improved.
The back translation in French has been improved. For example, words
containing an O with an alloyed E, such as "Oevre", and words
ending in "TRE", such as "notre", "votre",
etc., including word combinations, are now also translated.
The new character for internal capitalization in German will only
be used if all parts of the text beginning with a capital letter
are at least 3 characters long.
The sound groups of the full script are now also recognized after
an apostrophe in the back translation if there is a cancellation
point or other announcement sign in front of it.
The string "uh" is now implemented with cancellation point
6 to avoid confusion with the abbreviation "at all".
In the case of parenthesis expressions with square brackets, it could
happen that a closing bracket was removed.
The quotation marks at the column separators within a CSV file are
now correctly mapped to the start or end of speech.
If an asterisk is used within words such as "employees" to
indicate the gender-neutral form, the shortening of "IN"
is omitted for clarity.

April 2022
The space between a root character <pt146> and the preceding
root exponent is removed.
A hyphen between letters is only recognized as a dash if there are
no more than 2 letters before and after it.
For expressions with round brackets in math font, spaces outside
the brackets were incorrectly removed.
Individual capital letters such as "A" for "ampere"
were not marked as units of measurement if they were at the end of
mathematical insertions.
Repeating digits in periodic decimal fractions can now be placed
in parentheses within mathematical insertions without causing a renumbering
sign.
Numbers are also implemented with bullet points instead of spaces
if they are preceded by an arithmetic symbol.
The colon was incorrectly recognized as part of a time specification
if it was surrounded by spaces and followed by a subtraction (confusion
with possible time span).
The space between decimal fractions and integer fractions is preserved.
The lowercase letters 'a' to 'c' and 'x'
to 'y', like 'o' and 'u', are not marked
as units of measurement
If the direct point indication <pt4> is placed before an arithmetic
symbol, the space in front of the arithmetic symbol is omitted in
mathematical insertions. In this way, the cohesion point can be realized
in the simple fraction notation.
The hyphen was not recognized as a word delimiter within highlights,
which meant that superfluous discontinuation signs were placed in
certain situations.
The dollar sign is retained as a currency symbol in the back translation
if it is not preceded by any letter.
Stand-alone question marks, exclamation marks and dots in brackets
are given the cancellation point 6 in shorthand to avoid confusion
with monotonous abbreviations.
The "S" with V-circumflex is now recognized as a foreign
language accent letter and processed correctly. When translating
"S" back with announcement point 4, a case distinction is
made as to whether it is the accented letter or a dollar sign (in
the vicinity of numbers).
Within mathematical insertions, Greek letters can now be specified
as units of measurement with an announcement mark for a foreign-language
insertion.

October 2017The single numeral sign is no longer announced with
point 4 in full text and in a mathematical context.

April 2017This version supports the German Braille system for
the first time after the decisions of 14 November 2015 in Frankfurt
am Main. This also includes the system of mathematical writing in
German Braille after the resolutions of 30 November 2013 in Basel.
This version supports the Braille system for the first time. Unified
English Braille" according to the rules of the International
Council on English Braille (ICEB) from 2013 (Second Edition).

April 2017
The consonant sound groups of the full script are no longer recognized
as potential units of measurement and are therefore shortened and
converted into full script without cancellation dot 6 even if they
stand alone. The hyphen between numbers is no longer incorrectly
displayed as a minus sign, even when hyphenation is active.
5.06
April 2016If an acronym or words in permanent capitalization are
followed by a space and then a punctuation mark, the space between
the string and the punctuation mark is now removed. So far, the first
character of the acronym has been mistakenly swallowed. Strings such
as "hm", "hmm", "mh" and "mmh" are
no longer recognized as potential units of measurement and thus no
longer receive a cancellation point 6 before a sentence period.
5.05
October 2015The characters for "cross" and "double
cross" are now represented by one or two plus signs in the German
module.

April 2015
A lowercase "x" surrounded by spaces between numbers or within
a mathematical equation is converted as multiplication. A colon surrounded
by spaces within a mathematical equation is converted as a division.
A bullet point for numbers that are divided with spaces is inserted
even if the last group of numbers is placed before a punctuation
mark. If one or more annotation asterisks are followed by the abbreviation
"IN", this is separated from the asterisks by a space.
5.03
October 2013
In English and French, the module now adheres to the rule that the
character for "series of capitalized words" or "series
of highlighted words" is only used from four consecutive words
in capitalization or with highlighting. So far, it has already been
used for three consecutive words.
5.02
October 2011In front of lowercase units of measurement, point
6 is now always placed to indicate the lower case, regardless of
the degree of Cutback. A distinction is made between units of
measurement and commonly used abbreviations that are not case-sensitive.
For arithmetic characters before numbers at the beginning of the
line, a space is no longer inserted when arithmetic characters are
implemented without an announcement sign. The article character is
no longer incorrectly placed in front of capitalized words if their
first letter can be confused with a Roman numeral. Spaces between
the German abbreviation "des" and numbers are retained.
5.01
January 2010The back translation now also takes into account the
paragraph and article characters.
Dates with a 4-digit year are now converted with a superscript year
with an additional numeral symbol if numbers in lowered notation
are activated. This corresponds to the traditional spelling of dates
in Braille. Single sound groups of the full script are now also used
before a punctuation period, but here announced with point 6 to avoid
confusion with monotonous abbreviations.

October 2009The module has been expanded to include Spanish Braille
(full text only). In French, single letters are only marked with
a cancellation sign if the abbreviations represented by this letter
are not deactivated.
A dash that is represented by 2 hyphens, as in English, is recognized
as such if it is between 2 words without spaces. The article character
is also implemented after parentheses. Spaces between numbers and
units of measurement are eliminated only if the unit of measurement
is 4 characters long or shorter. Special representation of the gender-neutral
form with "inside" within lowercase words. Punctuation marks
before an apostrophe are not provided with the announcement point
6 because the apostrophe can be used as a single quotation mark.
Spaces after numbering are retained even if followed by a breaking
point or uppercase character. The back translation of nouns preceded
by an ellipsis has been improved.
Bug fix:
In the case of simple insertions in computer braille, the discontinuation
sign was doubled in English and French if the insertion did not end
at white space.
4.04
May 2009The implementation of mathematical insertions has been
improved: the character for "equivalent" (dots 26) can now
be entered with a tilde and the character for "fraction bar"
(dots 1256) with a vertical bar as opposed to the slash for "division".

Word/number compounds that can be used as bullets
do not result in the "all capitalized" representation. These
strings of drawings such as "A1", "A2", "B1",
"B2", etc. are used to label table cells like in a spreadsheet
program and should not blend with the contents of a table cell.
Spaces after a numbering are retained even if followed by a cancellation
or uppercase character. The back translation of nouns preceded by
an ellipsis has been improved so that abbreviations at the beginning
of words are always recognized. The Swedish Braille table SW850 has
been added.

Internet addresses in brackets are now also correctly implemented
at the end of a sentence. The words "he" and "hen"
are given the cancellation point 6 in shorthand to avoid confusion
with "had" and "hatten". Non-breaking spaces within
commonly used Abbreviations are overlooked. An abbreviation
is thus recognized as such despite non-breaking spaces. Umlauts
are marked in shorthand with a cancellation period.

Internet addresses can also contain non-breaking hyphens and
minus signs. The equal sign is represented in a mathematical context
without dot 4. The new French Character map TBFR2007 is now
also available as a code table. A hyphen at the beginning of a line
is also used as a leading space Indent and not interpreted
as a dash. An "h" between numbers is used as a possible delimiter
for Times interpreted.
Currency information with articulated numbers may also begin
with ".--".

November 2007this version includes for the first time the Shorthand
back translation for the languages German, English and French.
In favor of the back translation, a cancellation point 6 is now set
for some commonly used abbreviations so that they cannot be confused
with two-form abbreviations. If these cancellation characters (before
"Fr", "Mr", "Nr" and "Dr") are not
desired, the abbreviations can be included in the list of exceptions
for Braille translation. In addition, the following improvements
have been made:
Ellipsis by word are also recognized if there is a punctuation
mark after it. Space between a Percent or per mille sign and
arithmetic characters are optionally removed. Single people Exclamation
mark are marked in shorthand with a cancellation period.
Bullet points for numbers are inserted even if the number
ends with a sentence period.

Uniform single-standing contractions put an end to the "All
Big" display if they are lowercase. As the beginning of such
insertions, individual capital letters are now also recognized, followed
by an apostrophe or hyphen, if the associated part of the word consists
of capital letters. If punctuation marks in a text are not immediately
connected to the preceding word, but are separated with a space,
the space is removed. In the case of compound words with a hyphen,
"Everything in capital letters" was announced in English
and French if both parts of the word were capitalized. Now the capitalization
character is repeated, which corresponds to the current rules. One
Outline point for numbers that are separated by spaces is
inserted only if it is a real group of numbers and not a real number
or mathematical expression.
Hyphens in Internet addresses are not considered hyphens.
These are therefore not treated as in the case of hyphenation. If
within Abbreviations (except for the first letter), it is
not an abbreviation, but mixed case. Representation of the gender-neutral
form by "In" with a capital "I" at the end of
words is now also possible in the singular. "So." is now
used as Abbreviation for "Sunday" interpreted and
not shortened.

Columns of numbers are only considered structured numbers
if there is a single space between the numbers. Simple Slots in
computer braille also end with special characters that cannot
be included in URLs (for example, enclosing brackets or quotation
marks).

in addition to the German, British and American systems, the Braille
module now also supports French Braille according to the rules of
the "Commission Evolution du Braille Français" (CEBF) of
1998 and 2001 (Code Braille Informatique), including partial shorthand
and Antoine numbers.
