Installation: 

After launching the self-extracting archive, click "Setup" to install the program.

During installation, the program group "RTFC Hypertext Compiler" is set up. You can access the program via the entry "RTFC Hypertext Wizard".

New: 

RTFC now automatically detects MP3 files with variable bit rate and converts them to constant bit rate files for a DAISY book. You no longer need to decide yourself whether the "Re-encode compressed files" option must be enabled for audio import. Affected files are re-encoded automatically. A constant bit rate is a prerequisite for reliable phrase navigation in a DAISY book.

New: 

The speed of the ticking during the Progress Display can now be set as a metronome tempo ranging from 1 BPM to 400 BPM. This makes all tempos from "Largo" to "Prestissimo" and beyond possible. The lower rates in particular contribute to relaxation if audible feedback matters to you. You can access these settings via the "Accessibility" button on the "General" tab in the program options. From there, switch to the "Sound Cues" tab, where you can also preview the metronome using the "Play" button.

New: 

Latin is now also available as a language for back-translation. This allows text to be entered and back-translated without any contractions, in accordance with the German base system. When finalizing documents in the intermediate format "Rich Text Braille", the headings of lists are rendered uncontracted as a result.

Improvement: 

When the Hypertext Wizard or the Word List Generator is invoked while Microsoft Word is running in the foreground with an open, already-saved document, the document is now saved automatically. This ensures that the conversion always takes the current content of the document into account.

Improvement: 

The zoom function of the RTFC Hypertext Wizard now also applies to the dialogs of the RTFC Hypertext Compiler, including the Progress Display. You can access the magnification settings via the "Accessibility" button on the "General" tab in the program options. From there, switch to the "Magnification" tab, where you can adjust the zoom factor from 100% to 1000%.

Improvement: 

Unicode characters above the Basic Multilingual Plane (BMP) are now correctly recognized and processed — for example, emojis, rare East Asian characters, or musical notation symbols. These characters are now rendered correctly in all output formats: RTF, HTML, DAISY, and computer Braille via an appropriate Braille table. Since 6-dot Braille has no defined representation for these characters, a question mark is displayed instead. Previously, such characters could be lost or displayed incorrectly.

Improvement: 

The "Search in Document" and "Read in Document" functions for the RTFC pronunciation dictionary can now be used even when the Microsoft Word start screen is active and the current document has not yet loaded. Previously, Word would launch but remain stuck on the start screen.

Improvement: 

The installer can now replace TrueType fonts even when they are in use — for example by Microsoft Word — and therefore loaded and locked in the Windows font cache. A computer restart is no longer required for this.

Bug fix: 

Free text within headers and footers defined using Braille tags is now once again correctly rendered with the respective grade of Braille and can be combined with placeholders without issue.

Bug fix: 

Incorrectly encoded UTF-8 sequences (so-called "overlong encodings" starting with the bytes C0 or C1) are now reliably detected and handled correctly. This fixes incorrect display of certain special characters.

Bug fix: 

if a document was converted to Braille via the Word add-in while the cursor was not positioned at the start, the Braille Viewer could not be launched.

Bug fix: 

invoking RTFC from File Explorer could result in a crash of File Explorer.

Bug fix: 

When a braille printer with an IPP connection was set up using the network printer wizard in the Windows Control Panel, the printer name could be misinterpreted. Printer names in the form " http://192.168.20.118:631/Printers/Braillo" are now interpreted correctly again. We still recommend renaming printers in the Control Panel to the pattern "<Manufacturer> <Model>", so that RTFC can automatically assign the correct control sequences.
